Important Home Life Safety Measures

The Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company encourages you to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when you set your clocks back this weekend. A working smoke alarm more than doubles a person's chances of surviving a home fire. More than 90 percent of homes in the United States have smoke alarms, but it is estimated that one-third have worn-out or missing batteries.

It is recommended that you test the batteries in your smoke alarms every month and change them twice a year. Smoke alarms save lives, prevent injuries, and minimize property damage by enabling residents to detect fires early in their development.

If you do not have a working smoke alarm in your house, please contact the fire company at 410-692-7890 so that we can make sure you have this important life safety device in your home.
