By Past Chief Bryan Schulz
December 5, 2024

The Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a dwelling fire in the 2300 Block of Sheppard Court in the late afternoon hours. Chief 7-2 and Engine 713 arrived shortly thereafter and reported a single-family residence with smoke showing from the rear of the structure. Crews stretched a single handline and found a deck fire with extension into the home. Units operated for a brief period of time before returning to service.

As a good fire safety practice, always properly dispose of ashes when cleaning out your fireplace, wood or pellet stove. Storing them in a metal container to allow them to cool is advised. Remember although the ashes may appear cool, they can have the potential to burn days later.

Units: Chief 7, Chief 7-2, Engine 711, Engine 712, Engine 713, Supply 7
